NEW NOTARY LAW
In April of 2002, House Bill 1971
was signed into law. This law requires that in addition to
the notary's seal or stamp impression, signature and date
of expiration, the Commission Number of the notary must now
appear on all notarized documents. HB1971 was considered urgent
enough to be passed as emergency legislation, taking effect
immediately upon signing by the Governor. With the enactment
of HB1971, Oklahoma Notaries are now urged to include their
commission number and expiration date in their stamp or seal
so they will not be omitted or written incorrectly.
IMPORTANT: Intentional or unintentional
omission of the commission expiration date is a misdemeanor
under 49 O.S. 2001, Section 5, and upon conviction, a Notary
may be fined $50.00.
